Biography

Kumiko S. McKee was born and grew up in Japan. Kumiko started studying art from high school as a fine art major. After working as a display designer for two years in Tokyo, Japan, and traveling 37 countries with backpack, she moved to the United States and studied Fine Art at the University of Wyoming and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) degree in 2002. She opened her studio "Kumiko Art Studio" in 2003 and founded an art center “3 Square Art with her partner in 2017.

She is an award-winning artist creating large oil paintings of Japanese-themed historical subjects as well as extremely detailed portrait drawings in large scale format revealing the true spirit of her subjects. She received prestigious awards in National and International Competitions and Juried Exhibitions including 1st Place Award four times. As co-owner of 3 Square Art, she continues her passion for the arts working with her partner helping fellow artists and curating exhibitions for 3 Square Art Gallery.
